For most of us, our hair is our crowning glory. The average British woman spends £756 on her locks, if you include haircuts, products and treatments. But that’s a thing of the past – temporarily at least – for our brave care assistant René Smith. She has shaved off all of hers, donating the proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support.
René, who has worked for Parkfield House Nursing Home for nearly four years, was determined to do something to support family, friends and residents who have suffered with (or currently have) cancer. She is delighted to have raised £1,440 so far for the charity, comfortably exceeding her target of £1,000.
“A couple of my friends have braved the shave and it looked such a satisfying thing to do. My grandmother is currently in remission and a close friend has had the illness for a long time. I just wanted to do my bit to support them,” she explains. “I don’t miss my curls, especially when they behaved badly, which was most of the time!”
If anyone would like to donate to René’s JustGiving page, please do so here.
