We were thrilled to welcome Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday. This is Mr Johnson’s second visit – he last popped in October 2019 when he promised he’d us visit again.
The PM chatted with residents and staff over a cup of tea about their experiences of the pandemic and was shown work created as part of the home’s “A Portrait of Parkfield” project, for which it received a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2021. Working closely with creative charity Equal Arts, the group of residents – known as the Parkfield Peckers – take part in weekly creative workshops with professional artists to explore the lives of former residents and history of the home.
Throughout the year-long project, residents have been developing relationships with local schools, libraries and the Hillingdon Council. Together they are creating portraits, poetry and photographs that document their findings, ahead of an exhibition at Uxbridge’s Civic Centre.
Douglas Ramsay, one of the home’s many creative residents, presented Mr Johnson with both a painting and a poem to commemorate his visit.
