We have said an emotional goodbye to our home manager, Wendy Bristow, who has finally retired after seven memorable years in the post.
Wendy had previously retired in 2020 but returned to the home to help steer it through the Covid-19 pandemic, which was an extremely stressful time for all. Now that the pandemic has subsided, Wendy will be leaving the home in the very capable hands of her successor Glendeen Quow.
It was a very special farewell for Wendy – in ways that she was certainly not expecting! She was personally presented with the Chief Nursing Officer for Adult Social Care Gold Award (CNOASC) in recognition of her outstanding services to social care by none other than Professor Deborah Sturdy, the Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care. Added to that, she had received letters from both Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson (a regular visitor to the home) congratulating her on her dedication to the nursing profession and thanking her for her service.
Wendy was also presented with a certificate and a medal by Laird MacKay, Canford Healthcare’s chief operating officer. She was joined at her retirement party by residents, relatives, staff (and ex-staff) and professional colleagues, who raised a glass wishing her all the best for her second retirement!
Wendy spent the afternoon enjoying the BBQ and soaking up the sunshine with her guests in the Parkfield garden, and said how much she looked forward to making a start on all the work needed to get her own garden into shape!
