Community Is Like A Nest

Over the summer, our garden became the setting for a creative project led by Emma from Equals Arts. Each week, residents gathered together to work with clay, willow and paint, enjoying the chance to try something new while spending time with one another. The group created beautiful clay birds, each one carefully shaped and painted by hand. They also made nests from willow branches, giving everyone the opportunity to contribute to something that would become part of our shared garden.

Once finished, the birds and nests were carefully installed outside where residents, families and visitors can enjoy them. Surrounded by greenery, the pieces have brought a new sense of character to the garden and reflect the connection between creativity, nature and community.

One of our residents, Margaret, captured the meaning of the project beautifully when she said, “Community is like a nest.” Her words reflect what the sessions meant to those who took part. Like a nest, our community is a place where people can feel supported and connected while still being themselves. The finished pieces are now a lasting reminder of a summer spent creating together and enjoying the simple pleasure of making something that everyone can share.
