To mark National Care Home Open Day, Canford Healthcare Homes across the South East opened their doors to the public. This year it also coincided with the Queen’s birthday, so staff at our homes pulled out all the stops to celebrate in style for Care Home Open Day on Friday 20th April.
Parkfield House Nursing Home, in Uxbridge, had a full day’s entertainment as well as welcoming the local Mayor to the home. Madam Carol Melvin and her consort Mr Andrew Melvin had the privilege to open the newly refurbished lounge at the home, as well as a full tour of Parkfield House from Home Manager Wendy Bristow.
This year’s theme of Care Home Open Day was linking communities and throughout the year Parkfield House Nursing Home works closely with local groups in the area. Building relationships with the library, schools, and groups such as the Salvation Army are vitally important to enable our residents to feel part of their local community. We were lucky enough to welcome teachers and students from Park Academy, Librarian Bernie from Charville Lane Library and representatives from the Community Police Department. As well as Equal Arts group who are partnered with the home for their Hen Power project, and they entertained residents and guests with a musical performance.
With the weather on our side, the entertainment continued throughout the afternoon in the garden. With live music from talented pianist Mark as well as a tap dancing act from Kate, who got everyone cheering and clapping along. The day finished with residents and guests tucking into a delicious buffet in the sunshine, a truly wonderful day enjoyed by all.
