Audrey and Joan have become firm friends since living at Parkfield House. So, in their own words, they have written a little bit about what life is like at Parkfield.
We are both ‘elderly aged’ and both luckily have our faculties. Joan and I keep in touch with the outside world, through daily newspapers and like everyone haven’t a clue about Brexit, but we aren’t bothered like the old song says, ‘what will be will be’.
We can also vote. We have a book reading group and are currently in the middle of reading ‘Half a Sixpence’, by Evie Grace, which we are thoroughly enjoying. We also have 4 over indulged hens, that come and visit for strokes and cuddles. Equal arts visit once a week, which they do various activities and sometimes its based on the hens.
We get visitors from the local school, Park Academy come every week and Highfield school once a month, during term time. We have church visits from St John’s and we have been to the local Catholic church, Botwell RC church and attended mass. We had a visit from a Rabbi to celebrate Jewish New Year and we will look forward to next month to celebrate Diwali, the festival of light.
We have the chiropodist and optician visit us. Tracey the hairdresser comes in weekly and options to see the physiotherapist. Those who can join in exercise to keep us mobile and for a sense of wellbeing. Birthdays are celebrated with residents and staff singing ‘Happy Birthday’, as well as a lovely birthday cake. The home has a minibus, where we would go for rides and visit the garden centre, as well as shopping. Also, visitors can take their loved ones out if they wish.
